How to turn a layer on in layout

$

I’m having some trouble changing the visibility of layers in a layout. Maybe this is just an inherent limitation of rhino but I thought I’d ask anyway. I would like to turn on the visibility of certain layers in a viewport but I’m only able to turn off layer visibility. Am I missing something?

Navigating through the canvas

Hi guys. Just saw the post about Navigating the canvas.
Is there any way (a shortcut, buttons, anything) to navigate like in Adobe products with the hand tool (spacebar + mouse left click + move)? If I try to describe it, it would allow to click on the canvas, drag to some direction, the canvas view and components would move to the same direction.
Thanks a lot.

Selection highlight problem

$

Hi All,

I recently switched to a new computer and running into a strange problem with Rhino.
Basically the edges of selected objects no longer highligh, if they are conincident with either curves or edges of other not selected objects. This makes work quite difficult but I have not seen this before and don’t know what to do about it. Is there any setting or test command to improve that?
I have the latest video drivers.
It happens both in Rhino 6 and 7, and not in all display modes. Works fine in Shaded, but not Rendered or Ghosted. Any suggestions to make it work well again ?

thanks,

–jarek

V-Ray Grasshopper - Render in Project doesn´t work

$

Hello,
I´m trying to render some vrscene geometries imported to grasshopper, and everything seems to work before the render in project component, in fact, if I render with just the V-ray render it works. I tried to do the same steps but with another type of geometry and applying a generic material but it doesn´t work either.

Best regards,

How to access ON_Layer::LayerNamePathDelimiter() in C+ SDK?

$

0

In C++ I am trying to add layers to a parent layer which in the Layers tag would look like this:

House Cloud
Kitchen Cloud
Dining Room Cloud

I can add one, top layer by calling the function below with:
wchar_t *layer_name = L"House Cloud"

    int32_t add_layer(CRhinoDoc *pDoc, CRhinoLayerTable &layer_table, wchar_t *layer_name) {
    	// Does a layer with the same name already exist?
    	// layer_name = parent::child using ON_Layer::LayerNamePathDelimiter() for :: separator.
    	int32_t layer_index = layer_table.FindLayerFromFullPathName(layer_name, -1);
    	// If so delete it.
    	if (layer_index >= 0) {
    		// Get any objects on the layer
    		const CRhinoLayer &layer = layer_table[layer_index];
    		ON_SimpleArray<CRhinoObject*> obj_list;
    		int i, obj_count = pDoc->LookupObject(layer, obj_list);
    		// Delete all of the layer's objects.
    		CRhinoObject* obj; for (i = 0; i < obj_count; i++) { obj = obj_list[i]; pDoc->DeleteObject(obj); }
    		// Now remove the layer.
    		layer_table.DeleteLayer(layer_index, true); }
    	// Create a new layer for the graph.
    	ON_Layer layer; layer.SetName(layer_name);
    	// Add the layer to the layer table.
    	layer_index = layer_table.AddLayer(layer);
    	// If layer could not be added, layer index will be negative.
    	return layer_index;
    }

but I cannot create a sublayer using:
wchar_t *layer_name = L"House Cloud::Kitchen Cloud"
The result is a layer with the hierarchical names flattened into one name: House Cloud::Kitchen Cloud

Looking at the documentation for FindLayerFromFullPathName I see that the :: separator should be the string returned from ON_Layer::LayerNamePathDelimiter() but I have not found a way to code this in C++. If I try:
wchar_t *sep = ON_Layer::LayerNamePathDelimiter()
so I can compose my layer_name using this separator then the editor complains:
class ON_Layer has no member "LayerNamePathDelimiter".

@Dale can you suggest a fix for this?

Regards,
Terry.

Is there a select all edges command?

$

Hi,
V5
I am Filleting edges but if you do one complete edge at a time it turns out odd. Its sometimes tricky to keep selecting edges on a complex item.

I would like to run a command maybe called SelAllEdge and selecting the object , all edges are selected in one go.
An option on that could be select all chained edges, if thats the right term , i.e. all edges that are one face, or that are planar,…

I use the ChainEdges option but keep having to select it during selection. It doesnt stay ‘on’

I cannot see mention on the www or here.

Cheers

Steve

Levels And Cut Planes Not Working As Expected

$

In the Perspective View immediately below, the wall configuration shown cut is - as expected - the walls on Level 3 of this model. Note the settings in the Levels Panel:

Note that the Levels settings are the same as above for the detail on the layout below, but the model level being shown cut in the detail is not the Walls on Level 3. In fact it matches the cutplane display for the walls on Level 1 (shown at the bottom). It appears something’s wrong. I’ll upload the model.:

Seeking some advice on my current human + elefront workflow

$

Looking for some help, opinions, guidance on using Elefront and Human to organize my documents and produce blocks. I’m not doing anything as complicated as fabrication or detailing. I’m just trying to improve my architectural schematic design workflow, but still be able to generate options quickly.

Here’s an example with some simple window elements. Lately, when doing full facades in grasshopper, the baked result gets pretty heavy in Rhino. It seems like its time to break things up into blocks before baking. I like Human, however it lacks some of the quick lookup tools that Elefront has. On the other hand, Elefront’s requirement of baking blocks before using them gets cumbersome when doing quick design studies. Also, my work isn’t complex enough to break up into multiple reference files (yet).

I ended up mixing the two based on some suggestions in the forums:

  1. Human: “Create Attributes”, “Define Block” - Make, edit, update simple blocks in real-time without having to formally “bake them” (Elefront seems to make me bake them)
  2. Elefront: “List Block Document” (with Human “Item Selector”) - Use a drop down list to select blocks that I made using Human
  3. Elefront: “Insert Block” - Placing blocks by using a point/plane is much faster than relying on a transform from the original block location.
  4. Elefront: “Bake Objects”, “Bake All Elefront” - Easy bake using just the block geometry and then bake-all.

As a result the key-value relationship comes out a little funny, although I’m not sure I’ll use it unless I eventually take geometry into Revit.

If you have any suggestions to improve my workflow I’d be very happy to hear it.

My laptop battery died while I had a Rhino 7 file open and when I opened my file the lighting was wrong (surfaces not showing layer colour in shaded mode, and contrast too high in rendered mode). I tried copying to a new file to ensure default settings were correct but all my Rhino files are showing the same problem no matter what I do. I have also tried reinstalling. Additionally, when I do ViewCaptureToFile no image appears. Can anyone help with this please?

Attractor point on curved roof

$

Hey guys,

I am working on a parametric roof using a pattern on grasshopper and want to add the option of making the structure thinner around an attractor point. I have managed to do so but it isn’t working smoothly as it functions as separate elements and the structure doesn’t curve smoothly.

img1 img2

I’ve attached the file with internalised data of the current roof and columns I am working with.

I’m relatively new to grasshopper so I am not sure how to fix this, any help would be appreciated, thanks
