When you buy an upgrade now, can you upgrade Rhino 5.0 Mac to Rhino 6.0 (Windows) and use it on a Mac machine using Paralel or Bootcamp?
Additional question: Is the use in this case of the Cloud Zoo possible?

Solid union of a huge amount of BREPs using Anemone

Hi everyone,

I would like to make a question related with a recurrent problem, solid union (boolean) of huge amounts of BREPs.

Lately I was trying to solve this problem using Anemone, until now I got to this point (attachment). I was able to join about 1000 spheres, but when I try to transfer this logic to join the pipes those shape a kind of lattice, I do not get the expected result. Changing the number of repeats it is possible to see that in some moment the solid union crash for no apparent reason.

Does anybody know how this is possible?

Thanks!

Hello!

I’m trying to get this geometry 3D printed.

For that rather than doing a mesh pipe I’d like to create a smother joint in all the vertices, similar to

I’m trying to use exo wireframe on the script attached.

180411_eXOWIREFRAMEqUESTION_V1.gh (44.7 KB)

I believe the scrip is correct as it works with more regular geometry, but I think due to very stip angles it doesn’t work on the diamond grid. I would appreciate any help on this.

Thank you very much in advance,

Hello, I am an architect and working on space frame structures I am done modelling a detail definition which makes a space frame structure including pipes,cones and somewhat nodes. I can create holes in nodes in all the sides from where the connection is building. I am stuck in one part which is I dont know how to determine or generate all the angles of holes/drills for manufacturing purposes. I need help in this.

I can upload the definition if anyone wants to, Plus I am willing to pay for this. Its Urgent

It’s the handle for a bow, I’d like to fillet every edge of this solid but if I use the command everything appears to be wrong, even if I apply different radiuses to each section of the edge.
What can I do?

Graphic bugs in rhino 6

@maje90 wrote:

Hi all.
I have some graphic bug in rhino 6, in last service release as same as in last service release candidate.

Lines, like grid, curves or edges are everywhere “1.1x wider than normal”, so they not appear correctly thin as they should.
The normal wireframe rendering i’m used to is that every cuve is just 1 pixel wide (with AA off), here in RH6 i have almost every curve displayed somehow “dirty”.
Also i’ve found the “Focal blur” menu is blurred! … how ironic XD
See attached .gif to understand.

If I active GPU tessellation the problem is somehow more evident, or the same.

SubD....What's taking so Long?

i have authored several courses utilizing Rhino and Tsplines in v5. i work for a high-end jewelry company designing very complex organic designs

most of you should know by now that you can create just about anything using Zbrush-tSplines-Rhino. the problem now is rhino 6 can’t do any of that.

No… Fusion does not work w this pipeline. as a matter of fact… nothing in CAD world does what this pipeline does

if someone can tell me what new plugin can create subd (quad) meshes inside rhino & convert meshes back into a nurb - speak now

if you’re not familiar what im talking about… basically, you can model very complex organic meshes w tsplines - add high res details in zbrush - import back to rhino - CONVERT back to a nurb

don’t get me wrong. v6 is very good (w a few bugs to mention) but the developers went backwards in this software. grasshopper is great - but i can speak for the majority of the users. people need subD capabilities in rhino. maybe bring back tsplines or something similar (no not Clayoo)

it really sucks having to go back to v5 to achieve complex designs nurbs cannot accomplish

so my question to mcneel is - why did we go backwards? why end tsplines or subd in Rhino?

thanks guys

Error message lost with compiled commands

@Nathan_Clero wrote:

Hi everyone,

I have created a Python script and the way to make it work is the following:

  • When I click on the GUI button that I created or when I type the command name, it launches the compiled command launch_plugin.py (compiled in the .RHP)

  • This function launch_plugin.py only starts another script stored in plugin.dll (in the plugin folder, containing the core of my script)

  • When I have an error in my script (plugin.dll), I don’t get the error popup window (useful for debugging)

  • However if I go in RunPythonScript and Run launch_plugin.py, then I retrieve correctly the error popup windows

Do you know a way to retrieve those error messages using the compiled command instead of the Python file?

Best regards,
Nathan

S-L-O-W Meshing

I ended up with one complex solid part worth of 210 MB. If I work in shaded and try to perform any type of modification, re-shading will take 14 minutes. Yup, not a misprint. 14 MINUTES to create shading meshes…! In rhino 5 the same part with same mesh settings shades in around 15 sec.

Please tell me there is some switch I’m not aware of I can flip to fix this, otherwise I have to shelf Rhino 6, at least for this project.

Hello,
I am using a definition from Formularch to orient louvers according to multiple points.
I am looking for a way to make more gradual transition between the orientation of the louvers, like an average of the vector direction when the louvers is at a certain distance from the attractor point.
Should I use the field component?
Thank you for any tips.

How to make roads to follow the surface of terrain surface?

How to patch multiple OSM files in the same script with ELK

@alyssa.parsons wrote:

Hello!

I am trying to stitch together and create a 3D model of San Francisco in grasshopper using the location plugin from elk. I am having to do this because open street maps will only allow me to crop a small window of data at a time. I have imported the osm files separately and they all seem to overlap on top of each other. I was hoping that they would place themselves in the right location based off of the latitude coordinate and the longitude coordinate. For example, when I imported one of the OSM files from the center of the city it popped up in the water.

in the image I uploaded the osm file i highlighted should be somewhere above the other osm file that is overlapping it.

any help would be much appreciated!!!

Leader colour issue with V6

@DanBayn wrote:

I had one of our users point this out to me today. He likes to use a black background, and in V5, that wasn’t an issue when creating leaders, because the leaders were created on the current layer. In V6, that has changed. The leader is black, until it is completed. This video will illustrate the issue:

Is there a setting, perhaps in the advanced settings, that will allow the leader to be created on the current layer, right from the start (like V5)? Or, is there a place to adjust this colour?

I’m not a fan of black backgrounds, but there is the old dog-new trick factor here.

Thanks,

Dan
